Liaisons: How Can We Help?

The Liaison is committed to helping students attend school regularly, actively and successfully participate in school, and keep on the path toward graduation. She works in the schools to:

  • Provide help to students as referred through the principal, teacher, or school counselor.
  • Develop strategies with school staff to help students succeed in school.
  • Share information with families about their student's progress.
  • Help students and their families access community services.
  • Coordinate educational and support opportunities for students and parents in collaboration with other community professionals.

How Families Can Help
There are many ways that parents and families can help a child or youth be successful in school.

Kinship Mentor North

Be a friend. Be a mentor.

Kinship Mentor North is a new community-based mentor program
that matches Cook County youth (ages 7-14) with positive, caring adult volunteers in order to nurture personal growth, develop social skills, foster success in school and build community.

Our goal is to support and inspire young people through
consistent, caring mentoring relationships
with strong adult role models
.

Family Support: What Is It?

Family Support is a 'jumping off place' for parents, grandparents, step-parents, and caregivers to get help for issues that are important to them. The Family Support Coordinator can listen to your concerns, help you directly, or suggest other professionals who might be able to give you a helping hand. She can help support you in raising happy, healthy and awesome kids -- birth through 21!

Here are just a few sample issues she may be able to help with:

  • Handling your child's anger or temper tantrums
  • Becoming a new step-parent and trying to communicate with your partner's teenager
  • Being a single parent and trying to co-parent with your "ex"
  • Concerns about depression in your teen and not sure what signs to look for
  • Feeling isolated as a parent and need someone to talk to.
