AbuseAbuse is not an easy topic to address. Mostly because abuse comes in many shapes, sizes, and forms. Abuse is the improper use of power by one person to the detriment of another. Abuse can occur anywhere. These different forms of abuse frequently occur together and they are often hidden within a family. Child abuse must be reported in the county of which the abuse occurred. Call the county social services in your community to find out the phone number for another county. In general, there are six forms of abuse. Verbal abuse involves shouting, rage, put downs, comparisons with previous spouse/s. Social abuse involves isolation from friends, confining to house, smothering, and constant telephoning to check up on another. Economic abuse involves keeping a spouse poor so that he/she has to ask for essentials. The abuser keeps total control of finances. Physical abuse involves striking, punching, pushing, shoving, throwing objects, smashing precious collections. When physical abuse occurs between couples it is commonly referred to as domestic violence. Spiritual abuse involves selective use of scriptures. For example, "Wives be submissive to your husbands" without regard to its context, namely, "Submit yourselves to one another" and "husbands love your wives…" The last form of abuse is Sexual abuse. Please see the link below to learn more about sexual assault. Domestic Violence is a pattern of coercive and violent behavior used to threaten, frighten, injure or control another person. This includes emotional abuse as well as physical abuse. Intimidation is often a huge piece of domestic violence. A partner may make you afraid by using looks, actions, gestures, loud voice, and smashing things. Sexual assault involves forced sexual touch and hurting, forcing unwanted forms of sex, and rape. When sexual abuse occurs within dating or romantic context it is often referred to as date rape or sexual assault. Unwanted sexual contact between a dating couple or married couple (same or opposite gender) is still considered sexual assault. If penetration occurs, it is considered rape. Bullying and Intimidation involves making someone feel small, afraid and powerless.
