Reading Buddies Mentoring Program

A partnership between William Kelley Elementary School and Lake County Human Services connecting youth to other caring adults in their own community

•  Reading Buddy Volunteers will be paired with two 4th grade students from Mrs. LeBlanc's room. During their time together they will be reading chapter books (provided by the program/school), play math games/cribbage and have a snack together.

•  Reading Buddies meets for one hour every 2nd and 4th Tuesday of the month starting October 13 and ending April 27th . Only one session will be held in December due to the holidays.

•  Reading Buddy volunteers meet at the school at Mrs. LeBlanc's 4 th grade classroom. The start time is 9:30am and ends at 10:30am. The first half is snack time, socializing, playing math games, cribbage and the second half is reading. All activities take place at the William Kelley Elementary School under the supervision of Mrs. LeBlanc and Reading Buddies Program Coordinator Marianne Marshall.

LOTS: Learning opportunies through stories...

83% of participating parents rated the program as "great".

60% of participating parents reported learning important

skills to help their children's reading.

•  LOTS will be held at Grand Portage this fall.
